Delivering broadcast consultancy to Qatar Radio & Television Corporation
2008 at 02.27
By: Laura Luckett
VT Group has been contracted to provide consultancy to the government-owned Qatar Radio and Television Corporation to help develop infrastructure to support audience requirements in the region.
Qatar, once one of the poorest Gulf States, is now one of the richest countries in the region, thanks to its large oil and gas fields. This well-funded, forward thinking regime wants to develop its broadcast infrastructure in regards to both consolidated analogue and emerging digital broadcasting and has selected VT due its heritage and capability.
The initial part of VT’s contract is to carry out survey and planning works. The Qatar Radio and Television Corporation currently has analogue FM, VHF and UHF TV facilities in the capital of Doha, which it intends to move to a new central transmission facility in the centre of Qatar. It is expected that new transmitters, masts and antennas will be required.
VT will be performing site surveys in mid-2008 so it can make recommendations about possible locations to build transmission stations for a central transmission facility for analogue FM radio and analogue VHF and UHF TV, as well as T-DAB and DVB-T networks.
These works consolidate VT’s relationship with a forward thinking, long-term customer, and crystallises VT’s strategy in the region’s plans to develop digital transmission infrastructure.
